Mentorship

Learn from experience. Develop your craft. Build your career.

I’ve spent more than two decades working in animation as a storyboard artist, comicbook artist, character designer, and director, including directing more than ten animated features and over 40 episodes.

Along the way, I’ve learned that there is no single path into animation … or through it. Every artist faces different challenges, whether you’re trying to break into the industry, develop your storytelling skills, move from storyboarding into directing, or figure out what comes next in your career.

I created this mentorship program to share what I’ve learned and to help artists navigate those decisions with practical, real-world advice.

What We Can Work On

Mentorship can be tailored to where you are in your career. Topics can include:

  • Storyboarding and visual storytelling
  • Portfolio and reel reviews
  • Character and performance
  • Shot design and staging
  • Directing for animation
  • Moving from artist to director
  • Building and navigating a career in animation
  • Working with directors, producers, and production teams
  • Creative leadership and decision-making
  • Breaking into the industry
  • Developing your own projects
  • Storyboarding in the World of AI

This isn’t a course with a predetermined curriculum. The goal is to focus on you, your work, and the challenges you’re currently facing.

Who It’s For

Mentorship is intended primarily for artists and filmmakers who are serious about developing a career in animation.

That might mean you’re:

  • A student preparing to go to art school.
  • A student preparing to enter the industry.
  • A storyboard artist looking to take the next step.
  • An artist trying to strengthen a portfolio or reel.
  • An experienced artist considering a move into directing.
  • A director looking for another perspective on a project.
  • An independent filmmaker developing your own animated work.

You don’t need to be at a particular level. What matters most is that you’re willing to put the work in.

A Practical Approach

I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all career advice.

The animation industry changes constantly, but the fundamentals of good storytelling, collaboration, communication, and creative decision-making remain the most consistent.

My goal is to give you honest, practical feedback based on real production experience—not simply tell you what you want to hear.

Sometimes that means identifying what’s already working.

Sometimes it means figuring out what isn’t.

And sometimes it means helping you determine what your next step should be.

Monthly Mentorship & Office Hours

I also offer monthly group office hours for artists who want access to my experience without committing to ongoing one-on-one mentorship.

These sessions provide an opportunity to:

  • Ask questions about the industry.
  • Get feedback on your work.
  • Discuss career decisions.
  • Talk through storyboarding and directing challenges.
  • Learn from the questions and experiences of other artists.

The format is intentionally informal and practical.
